Revelation 19:11–16 presents one of the most vivid and awe-inspiring descriptions of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in all of Scripture. Christ returns as Faithful and True, riding forth in righteousness as Judge and King, bearing the title King of kings and Lord of lords. In this episode of Living in the 21st Century, Steve Wood walks carefully through this passage and explains why Revelation 19 is central to a proper understanding of biblical prophecy.
Although the exact phrase “Second Coming” never appears in the Bible, the reality it describes is woven throughout the New Testament. Drawing from Revelation, the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Gospels, and the letters of St. Paul, this episode shows how Scripture consistently points to one future return of Christ in glory to judge the living and the dead.
Special attention is given to the biblical term Parousia, especially in Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians, and how it connects the events of 1 Thessalonians 4 directly to the Second Coming described in Revelation 19. Steve also addresses popular rapture theories and explains why the Bible does not teach multiple future “comings” of Christ, but rather a single, climactic Second Advent that includes the resurrection of the dead and the Day of the Lord.
